The Madhya Pradesh government has taken a new initiative to promote eye donation and provide treatment to more people. Now the facility of transplantation will be started in all district hospitals of the state (transparent part of eye). For this, the state organ and tissue transplant organization (SOTTO) had sent a proposal and sent to Bhopal, which has been approved.
Cornia transplant initiative
In the first phase of this scheme, transplant centers will be started in hospitals in 15 districts of Indore and Ujjain divisions. Doctors and technical staff will be trained in these districts so that they can start this facility in their respective districts.
Training will start in MGM Medical College
The training work will start from July 1 at MGM Medical College, Indore. Doctors will be given one month and 15 days training to technicians. This training will give an expert team of the Department of Eye Disease of Medical College. Every year about 100 cornea transplants are already done in this department and there is also an eye bank.
Most of the district hospitals of the state already have operation theater, microscope and essential equipment as there are surgery like cataract. Therefore, a process like Carnia Transplant can also be easily started there.
Facility will start first in these districts
Indore Division – Alirajpur, Barwani, Burhanpur, Dhar, Indore, Jhabua, Khandwa and Khargone.
Ujjain division-Dewas, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Mandsaur and Neemuch.
According to Dr. Preeti Rawat, HOD of the Eye Disease Department of MY Hospital, this initiative will provide relief to those patients who are unable to get treatment in big cities due to lack of money or distance. Now they will be able to get eye transplant facilities in their district itself. Along with this, eye donation will also be encouraged, which will give more light to the patients.
Dr. Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, informed that this scheme will be implemented in collaboration with the Health Department and the government. Transplant centers will be operational in every district three months after the training is over.
