The Center has also instructed the Madhya Pradesh government to control sugar and salt in the nutritious diet of children and pregnant, amidst increasing the problem of obesity in children and women. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has written a letter in this regard to the Chief Secretary of the States and the Women and Child Development Secretary. The ministry has warned about the diet being given to children and pregnant from Tech Home Ration and Anganwadi.

In a letter to the Chief Secretary of the states and other officers, the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has given these instructions. Ration packet testing has found more quantity of sugar, salt and other elements. According to the letter, sugar and adults should have less than 10% of the total nutrients in the food of children and adults under the WHO rules. Only 5% of the total energy should come from sugar. At the same time, according to the National Institute of Nutrition, children up to 2 years of age should not have extra sugar. According to the letter, use jaggery for sweetness instead of sugar. Jaggery should also not exceed 5% of the total nutrients.

In the letter, the ministry has written that somewhere there have been more salt, sugar and colors in the breakfast and food given to women, pregnant and children who feed the child. According to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), the amount of salt, sugar and colors in their diet should be controlled. Earlier, the government had issued instructions to control the quantity of sugar in the food of school children.

How much quantity should sugar-salt

Citing the WHO rules, the Center has asked the state that the food of children and adults should have 10 percent of the total nutrients and five percent of the total energy. On the other hand, according to the National Institute of Nutrition, two -year -old children should not have additional sugar. For sweetness in their food, jaggery should be used instead of sugar and that too only five percent of the total nutritional elements.

These diseases are suffering from more salt-sugar

Under the Madhya Pradesh Government Nutrition Diet Scheme, about 80 lakh pregnant and children who feed children from Anganwadi centers and children aged six months to six are given nutritious food. Due to the amount of salt and sugar in their food, they can have problems with high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and teeth.
