The opposition’s protests continue from Parliament to the road over the special intensive revision (SIR) released in Bihar. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has made a big comment about SIR.
SC’s comment
The Supreme Court said that if the Bihar voter list is proved illegal, then the results of SIR can be canceled by September. Let me tell you, in the Supreme Court, there was a hearing on petitions challenging the voter of the Election Commission again, which is being held a few months before the assembly elections in Bihar.
Teachers raised questions
During the hearing, the petitioners questioned on the constitutional basis of the process and said that the Election Commission who had demanded documents to prove citizenship does not have the right to decide on the matter.
What arguments did the petitioners argue?
The petitioners argued that the case of citizenship is the jurisdiction of the Government of India, especially the Union Home Ministry. He said, “The Election Commission says that Aadhaar is not enough to decide citizenship, but they do not have the right to decide citizenship. The court said that they only need to ensure the identity of voters.”
