Especially scrolling reels or short videos before sleeping at night has become a common habit, but this habit is proving dangerous for mental health. According to experts, due to continuous reels at night, the mental restlessness related to digital enzymes is increasing rapidly.

Statistics of the Department of Mental Disease at JAH Hospital in Gwalior show that in the last one year, the number of mental consultation has increased by 40% among the youth of 18 to 30 years. Among them, most of the students, employed people or social media content creators, who sees reels on mobile at night to eradicate the fatigue of the day. But this habit is making them more restless than giving them relief.

Sleep pattern is messing up

According to psychiatrist Dr. Atar Singh, the addiction of the reels gradually turns into ‘doom scrolling’. The person keeps scrolling on mobile for hours, but he does not get satisfaction. This does not complete sleep and the next day there is a lack of fatigue, irritability and concentration. This habit can also gradually cause depression and social isolation.

Dopamin hits increasing discomfort

The rapidly changing clips of the reels give the brain constantly dopamin hits. This repeatedly seeks the same happiness. When this hit begins to decrease, the person starts feeling restless and uncomfortable, which is called ‘Digital Enjoy’.

Rescue measures

Psychiatrist Dr. Aman Kishore suggests that a time limit should be decided on the use of social media. The mobile should be turned off at least one hour before bedtime. Read the book in his place, listen to slow music or meditate.
