According to the officials of the Transport Department, this scheme started for the convenience of women on family and emotional festivals like Rakshabandhan. Initially it was applied for only one day, but the duration of travel over time and the number of beneficiaries increased. According to the data, in 2017, about 11 lakh women took advantage of this facility, while in 2023 this number increased to more than 29 lakhs. In 2022 too, more than 22 lakh people did free travel.
Officials of the Transport Department say that during this period the number of buses and frequency of routes is increased, so that no one is inconvenienced due to the crowd. In view of security, police or home guard personnel are also deployed on sensitive routes.
Most benefits to women of rural and remote
The biggest advantage of this facility is available to women living in rural areas and small towns, from where the fare of travel to big cities is many times more than their power. Due to the free bus service, they can not only go to the brothers to tie rakhi, but are also able to return without the festival without economic concern.
Relief for co -passenger
In this announcement, the provision of waiving a co -passenger ticket with women is also in discussion. In many cases, women travel with young children or old families, who had to pay the rent separately earlier. This change has brought both convenience and savings for many families. However, this discount will only apply in select ranges, so that there is no unnecessary pressure on revenue.
