More than 600 pilgrims hospitalized due to chlorine gas leak in Iraq

More than 600 pilgrims were admitted to the hospital due to chlorin gas leakage at a water purification center in Iraq. The incident took place on Saturday night on the route between two Shia holy cities Najaf and Karbala located in the middle and south of Iraq. This year millions of Shia Muslim pilgrims are expected to visit Karbala. The dargahs of Imam Hussain and his brother Abbas are located here.

Iraq’s Health Ministry issued a statement saying that 621 cases of suffocating have been registered in Karbala after chlorine gas leakage. All were provided necessary care and they are also getting healthy discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, security forces deployed to protect the pilgrims said that the incident occurred due to chlorine leakage from a water station on the Karbala-Nazaf road.

Explain that most of the infrastructure of Iraq has become dilapidated due to decades of struggle and corruption. In July, more than 60 people were killed due to a fierce fire in a shopping mall in the eastern city of Kut.
