President Smt. Draupadi Murmu has appreciated the efforts of the Government of Madhya Pradesh on ‘World Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Day’. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu said in her message that to achieve the goals of developed India, it is very important that all the countrymen be healthy. Only healthy citizens can make effective contribution to the progress of their life, their state and our country. He has called upon all partners to work unitedly to make India sickle cell anemia free.
President Smt. Murmu has appreciated the Madhya Pradesh government on 19 June 2025 for organizing ‘World Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Day’ in District Barwani in Madhya Pradesh. He said in the message that the sickle cell anemia affecting millions of people around the world specifically affects the tribal population in India. The celebration of this day is an important step towards fighting against it with determination.
President Smt. Murmu said that many people in our tribal community and backward areas have been suffering from sickle cell anemia for decades. Genetic counseling and management are extremely important by identifying screening at the community level to prevent spread from one generation to another from one generation to another. The national resolve to liberate India from sickle cell anemia by 2047 is a visionary initiative to eliminate this problem from the root. Integrated treatment centers have been set up for people affected by sickle cell anemia under the National Sickle Sale Anemia Mission, where necessary medicines are provided free of cost to patients.
President Smt. Murmu said that efforts under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission are identifying the disease in many tribal communities at the state and national level, which is also improving treatment and quality of life. He said that when all the stakeholders work together from a continuous, dedicated and human point of view, then it will be possible to eradicate this problem from the root.
