In 2023, Mohammad Mujju’s government doubled the defense budget to $ 50 million (about Rs 420 crore). This building is part of the same strategy, which is necessary to protect the country’s maritime boundaries and tourism.

India has given technical assistance in this project. In 2024, under the Indo-Maldives Defense Agreement, Indian experts helped in the security and design of the building.
