The government report, which was presented in Parliament on Friday, gave detailed information on several important issues abroad, attack on Hindu community and Indians abroad, border disputes with China, national security, irregularities in health schemes and earnings from the Prime Minister’s radio program.
2.06 lakh Indians left citizenship in 2024
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh said in the Lok Sabha that in 2024, 2,06,378 Indians left their citizenship while the number was 2,16,219 in 2023. This figure has increased to 8.96 lakhs in the last five years. He clarified that due to giving up citizenship or adopting foreign citizenship, they are completely personal and the government does not have any official records for what reasons people are leaving the country.
Attack on Hindus abroad and ransacked temples
According to the report presented in the Rajya Sabha, 3,582 attacks on Hindus have been registered in Bangladesh since 2021.
The attacks have especially occurred in areas like Rangpur and Chittagong.
India has officially raised 334 cases of violence on minorities in Pakistan before Islamabad.
In the US, 5 cases of sabotage in Hindu temples were reported in the US in 2024, while 4 cases of attacks were registered in Canada and also in Britain.
Indian land in China’s possession
The government confirmed that at the end of the 1962 Indo-China War, China had illegally occupied 38,000 square kilometers of Indian territory and the situation remains till now. India had several rounds of diplomatic and military talks to resolve the border dispute, but the solution is still far away.
India’s eye on Lalmanirhat airbase
India has taken cognizance of the reports received about Lalmanirhat Airbase in Bangladesh. Minister of State for External Affairs Singh said that the government is cautious and active on every aspect related to national security. The question was asked whether Bangladesh has allowed China to start military activities with this airbase, on which the minister did not give any direct reply to this, but said that the situation is being monitored.
