Kochi: Central Excise Officer and Family Found Deceased at Home
Eachamukku in Kochi reeling, a central excise department officer, along with his mother and sister, were discovered dead in their residence. The officer, serving as an additional commissioner in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department, hailed from Ranchi, Jharkhand, and was in his 40s. The preliminary assessment by the Thrikkakara police suggests that the trio may have died by suicide approximately four days prior to the discovery.
The unsettling discovery was made when the officer’s colleagues grew concerned after he failed to return to duty post his leave. Their attempts to reach him proved futile, prompting them to visit his official quarters in Eachamukku. Upon arrival, they were met with a pervasive foul odor emanating from the residence, which led them to alert the local police.
Responding promptly, the Thrikkakara police entered the premises and encountered a distressing scene. The officer and his sister were found hanging in separate rooms, while their mother was discovered lying lifeless on a bed. The exact cause of the mother’s death remains undetermined, pending the results of a detailed post-mortem examination.
Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and are meticulously investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
