Union Communications and North Eastern Region Development Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Friday that unified approach is required to accelerate the development of infrastructure in the North Eastern Region (NER). The Union Minister gave five suggestions to fill the gap of infrastructure and connectivity, in which a regional master plan prepared a regional master plan and mixing the infrastructure grid of the North Eastern region, setting up a monitoring mechanism for priority projects for NERs, offering various taxes and other concessions offer the multimedal parks through the offerings of multicolored countries, focusing on the international business with multicolors. To give border cross connectivity and increase digital connectivity and power transmission infrastructure.
Speaking at the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) on Logistics, Infrastructure Connectivity in the North Eastern region, Scindia further said that all infrastructure projects in the northeastern region should be mapped on the PM Capacity portal to make better plans for future projects. The Union Minister asked all the northeastern states to update their State Logistics Policy according to the standards prepared by the Ministry based on the best practices across the country. He further stated that industrial clusters can be developed in transport corridors as well as in the Northeast region for rapid economic development of the region.
The HLTF meeting focused on the existing critical gap in the northeast region in sectors such as highways, railways, waterways, airways, logistics and digital contacts. To bridge the infrastructure difference in the Northeast, it was decided to prepare a comprehensive infrastructure masterplan at the HLTF meeting. The scheme will be developed in consultation with all eight northeastern states and central ministries, ensuring a collaborative approach to regional development.
Major points of discussion during the meeting included identification of state-specific obstacles and challenges, significant connectivity gaps and priority infrastructure requirements, state budget for capital formation and unification of national investment and implementation of a roadmap for the northeastern region developed up to 2047. Earlier this year, the Center formed eight High-Level Task Force (HLTF), each of which is headed by a Chief Minister of the North Eastern State, with Union Ministers and three Chief Minister members of other states.
