The MP High Court has granted bail to a Muslim woman professor. The professor is accused of provoking religious sentiments on social media. The single bench of Justice AK Singh said that the accused cannot be kept in jail indefinitely. The court has granted bail to the female professor with certain conditions. The professor posted a controversial video and message in the WhatsApp group.
Comment about mother Sita
This was posted by Dr. Naseem Bano, who worked as a guest professor in Dindori. He put a cartoon video of Sita Mata’s kidnapping in the WhatsApp group. Along with this, he also mentioned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He wrote that there is no difference between the terrorists asking for religion by asking religion and raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram.
Case filed in these sections
Dindori Kotwali police had registered a case against Dr. Nasim Bano under sections 196, 299 and 353 (2) of BNS, 2023. The police accused him of inciting religious sentiments and disturbing social harmony.
Professor was in jail since April 28
In the High Court, a single bench of Justice AK Singh heard the case. The court found that the female professor has been in jail since 28 April 2025. His bail plea was rejected by the trial court on 30 April 2025. The court also came to know that no other criminal case was registered against him. The court said that as an educated person and professor in college, Dr. Bano should have taken more care in sending messages on WhatsApp. However, the court also said that no one can be kept in jail indefinitely on the basis of sending messages or videos that can only hurt religious sentiments.
Court provided conditional bail
The court has granted conditional bail to Dr. Nasim Bano. This means that they have to follow certain conditions. If they do not follow these conditions, their bail may also be canceled. The court also said that the investigation of the case will continue and the trial court will do its work.
