Due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, while there is a threat of floods in the border areas of Punjab, the alarm bell has also been rang in Patiala. Actually, the water level in the Ghaggar river is continuously increasing and it has increased rapidly in the last 24 hours.
In view of this, the Patiala administration has issued advisory for more than a dozen villages near the Ghaggar river and has instructed people to be vigilant. The water level of the river has reached the danger mark, due to which people from Rajpura, Ghanor and other surrounding areas have been appealed not to go towards the river. During this time, Patiala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti Yadav has appealed to the citizens to be vigilant, not spreading rumors and any emergency related to water on the number 0175-2350550 of the District Control Room.
On the other hand, the water level in Beas and Sutlej rivers is also increasing due to rain in the hilly and plains. From the Harekee Head to Hussainiwala head, 20,000 to 25,000 cusecs of water is being released. Water is being released by opening three to four gates on Hussainiwala head, which will go towards Fazilka. Here, the water level of Pong Dam on the Beas river in Talwara in Kangra and Hoshiarpur district has also increased by three feet in just 24 hours. There is a preparation to open the gate of the dam here at five o’clock on Wednesday evening. The administration has issued an alert for low -lying areas.
