China said on Friday that it welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will be held in Tianjin city later this month. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said during a regular press briefing in Beijing, “China welcomes Prime Minister Modi to attend China to attend the SCO summit. There will be coordination, mobility and productivity. “
He said that “China will host the SCO Summit in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September. The event will participate in the event, leaders of more than 20 countries including all member countries and leading 10 international organizations. It will be the largest summit since the formation of SCO.”
According to reports, Prime Minister Modi will visit China to attend the SCO summit to be held in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to China after a violent clash of Galwan Valley in 2020, which severely affected India-China relations.
Prime Minister Modi had earlier visited China in 2019. Apart from this, he met Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia in 2024. Important progress towards ending the four -year -old border deadlock between India and China was when the two countries signed an agreement to patrol the Line of Actual Control (LAC) about 3500 km long.
In July, External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar visited China to attend a meeting of SCO Foreign Ministers held in Tianjin. During this, he also met his Chinese counterpart Wang Ji and also met President Xi Jinping with all the foreign ministers.
In June, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited China to attend a meeting of SCO Defense Ministers. India refused to support the joint announcement of that meeting, as it did not include concerns related to terrorism. India said that the document should include the issue of terrorism, which did not accept a particular country, so a joint statement was not adopted.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval also attended the 20th meeting of security council secretaries of SCO member countries held in Beijing. During this time he emphasized the need to end double standards against terrorism and abolish the UN-banned terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and their network.
Significantly, the SCO is a permanent inter-governmental international organization, which was established on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai. Its member countries include India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.
