In July 2025, there has been a slight slowness in the demand for cars in India. The sales of passenger vehicles failed to catch a boom this month. There has been a slight increase of about 1 percent on an annual basis in July after two consecutive months of decline, but the delivery of retail sales to customers was still under pressure. Seven car companies of the country together recorded a sale of around 3,29,113 units in July, which is about 95 percent of the domestic market. The sales of four of these companies either remained stable or decreased.
Heavy rain and weak customer spirit increased difficulties
In July, auto dealers reported that the booking and delivery process of cars was slow due to heavy rains and lack of cash in the market. Despite the discounts and offers by many companies, customers avoided shopping. Because of this, the dealers had an average inventory stock of 53 days, which is more than normal.
Maruti Suzuki sales stable, hopes increase
The country’s largest vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki sent 1,37,776 units to dealers in July, which are almost stable compared to the previous year. The company’s sales in June were the weakest in the last 18 months, so July stability is considered a relief. The company’s sales chief Partho Banerjee said that the demand for Wagon R is gradually improving and the coming festivals will further promote the sale of this car. Maruti’s mini and compact segment has seen the first time since January, which is a positive sign.
Mahindra & Mahindra leads the SUV segment
Mahindra & Mahindra has done well in the SUV segment. The company sold around 50,000 units in July, which is 20 percent higher than the previous year.
