Bangladesh security forces arrested more than 1,300 people till Monday in a major action launched on Saturday. The purpose of this action is to suppress the new wave of violence in the country for the last few days. The nationwide campaign is named ‘Operation Devil Hunt’. The interim government, headed by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, started the operation after targeting the properties of the family of disrespectful Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the major members of his Awami League Party.
The violence sparked across the country with a sharp, the mob targeted the symbols of the Awami League and the tension between political groups increased. After the attack on students and citizens in Ghazipur district on Friday night, the interim government ordered ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ on Saturday. The joint forces involved in the operation include army personnel, police and special units. So far, the authorities have arrested 1,300 people in connection with unrest and violence spread in the country in the last four days.
The interim government has vowed to uproot all the devils trying to destabilize the country. One of the most horrific incidents during the violence occurred when the protesters set fire to the historic residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh located in the capital Dhaka. This house holds an important place in the history of the country because from here Rahman announced the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971.
A command center has been monitored by ‘Operation Devil Hunt’. The office of the Chief Advisor has confirmed that the operation is in full swing, as well as additional efforts to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), a opposition party led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has appealed to the interim government to control the growing ‘crowd culture’ and restore peace.
