Atishi: They’ll turn Delhi into UP’, Concerns Over Power Outages in Delhi Following BJP’s Election Victory

Atishi

The recent electoral shift in Delhi, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a significant victory after 27 years, outgoing Chief Minister Atishi has voiced concerns regarding emerging power outages in the city. Addressing the media on February 13, 2025, she highlighted that within just three days of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demitting office, over 40 instances of power cuts have been reported across various localities. Residents, she noted, have already begun purchasing inverters in anticipation of further disruptions.

Atishi emphasized that during AAP’s tenure under former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the administration maintained rigorous oversight of the city’s electricity infrastructure, ensuring a stable power supply. She expressed apprehension that the BJP’s governance might lead to prolonged power outages, drawing parallels to the situation in Uttar Pradesh, another BJP-ruled state known for its electricity challenges.

The BJP’s recent electoral success in Delhi marked a historic comeback, securing 48 out of 70 seats and displacing AAP, which saw its representation reduced to 22 seats from a previous tally of 62. As the BJP prepares to form the new government, discussions are underway regarding the selection of the next Chief Minister, with several prominent names being considered.

The concerns raised by Atishi underscore the critical importance of effective governance in maintaining essential services like electricity. As Delhi transitions to new leadership, residents are keenly observing how the incoming administration will address these immediate challenges and uphold the standards of public utility services.
