Government sources said that Google will invest $ 6 billion to develop a 1 GW data center and its power infrastructure in South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This will be the first such investment of the Alphabet unit in India.
Two sources of the Andhra Pradesh government, which have directly known about the case, told the Reuters that this data center to be built in the port city of Visakhapatnam includes a renewable energy investment of $ 2 billion, which will be used to operate this feature.
The search giant’s data center will be the largest in Asia in terms of capacity and investment and it is part of its data center portfolio expansion of billions of dollars in the entire region including Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. In April, Alphabet had stated that it is committed to spending about $ 75 billion on data center capacity building this year, despite the economic uncertainty arising from US President Donald Trump’s global tariff invasion.
Alphabet did not immediately respond to Reuters’ remarks.
Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Minister Nara Lokesh, who is in Singapore to discuss investment with government and business leaders, did not comment on Google investment.

Referring to the 550 MW data center to be built in the state by Safi Technologies, he said, “We have made some announcements such as Safi, which are public.” He further said, “There are some announcements that have not been made public yet. In October we will make these announcements.”
Post -partition investment campaign
The state Andhra Pradesh, run by the leading colleague of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, was divided into two parts in 2014, which led to its former capital Hyderabad and a major source of revenue to the newly constructed Telangana state.
Since then Andhra Pradesh has been trying to attract investment to reduce the financial pressure of high debt and social expenditure.
Lokesh said that Andhra Pradesh has already been able to finalize investment in data centers with a total capacity of 1.6 GW, he said that it aims to create 6 GW data centers in the next five years, which is currently almost zero.
He hopes that initial data centers of pre -fixed 1.6 GW will be operational in the next 24 months. According to the Real Estate Consultancy Enerok, it will be more than 1.4 GW currently operated across the country.
Lokesh said, “We are also working on setting up three cable landing stations in Visakhapatnam. We want to create enough cable networks, which will be doubled by Mumbai’s current capacity.”
Cable landing stations – which are usually located close to data centers, requiring intense and reliable connections to global networks – are used to store devices that obtain data from the cables under the sea and relay them.
Lokesh also said that the state is considering the creation of energy infrastructure to meet the stability requirements of data centers. He said that he is expected to require power generation capacity up to 10 GW from the power-oriented industry in the next five years.
He said, “Most energy will be really green energy, and this is the unique value proposal we are presenting.”
He said that some additional capacity would be operated with coal, as data centers require reliable, high -volume electricity throughout the day.
