‘Arrest or shoot’, Mamta Banerjee announced: Movement will continue to honor Bengali language

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday led a huge protest rally in Jhargram and condemned the alleged attacks on Bangla -speaking migrants outside the state. The rally organized with the message of Bangla language and identity was ‘never suppressed’ was led by Trinamool Congress Supremo Banerjee. He said that even if you come to arrest me or shoot me, I will continue to protest against the insult of Bengali language.

He said that if you attack the people of Bangla language and Bengal, then I will expose the BJP to the world. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed at the Jhargram rally that the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list is being exercised to bring the National Civil Register (NRC) from the back door. What is the right to send NRC notice to the people of West Bengal to the Government of Assam. BJP leaders are seeking birth certificates from people to prove their identity, but do they have their own documents. Not a single voter should be excluded from the voter list in the name of special intensive revision (SIR).

Mamta Banerjee made a padyatra of about three kilometers in the tribal dominated area, which included Trinamool leaders, cultural personalities and citizens. He had placards in his hands on which insult to Bengal would not be tolerated and slogans like Bengal, my mother, were written. This protest was organized in view of alleged harassment of Bangla -speaking migrants in various parts of the country.

At the same time, Mamta Banerjee on Wednesday launched a fierce attack on the Election Commission (EC) for suspending four state government officials and a data entry operator over the alleged lapse to prepare the voter list. He questioned the validity of the move and accused the Election Commission of acting at the behest of the BJP. Banerjee alleged that the state government employees were being threatened.

Addressing a public meeting, Banerjee said, “The officials were given suspension notice yesterday. Has the election announced so far? Which law allows them to suspend at this time? It is our responsibility to protect all of you. We will do this. We will not suspend them.” The Trinamool Congress supremo accused the Election Commission of trying to threaten government officials and said that his administration would stand with its employees.
