The resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has been approved. On the previous day, Dhankar had sent a letter to President Murmu to resign from the post. He cited health reasons behind the resignation. After his resignation, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were conducted by Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh met President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This meeting is taking place when Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on Monday evening. Rashtrapati Bhavan also shared a picture of the meeting on X. In which it is written, Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Let us know that on Monday, Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. After which Harivansh presided over the morning session proceedings in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. However, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were postponed till tomorrow.
The post of Chairman was automatically vacant
With the leaving the post of Vice President, the post of Chairman of Rajya Sabha also became automatically vacant. The Vice President is the ex -officio Chairman of the Upper House. In such a situation, now when the resignation has been approved, the Deputy Chairman Harivansh will run the entire proceedings of the Rajya Sabha in the monsoon session. Apart from this, this responsibility can also be given to the authorized member of the President.
Dhankhar was active in Rajya Sabha throughout the day on Monday
Earlier on Monday, Dhankar was active in the Rajya Sabha throughout the day. In the morning, he advised the opposition to make the Parliament a positive platform of dialogue and discussion and after noon, accepting the notice of impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma, clarified the entire process. In the impeachment notice presented against Justice Shekhar Yadav, an inquiry was also announced to hold an inquiry on the double signature of an MP.
Dhankhar’s health deteriorated last week too
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday with immediate effect citing health reasons. In his resignation sent to President Draupadi Murmu, he said that he was taking this decision to prioritize health care and to follow medical advice. Although he looked quite active and energetic in the Rajya Sabha in recent months, his health was not going well. In March, he was admitted to AIIMS for a few days, after which the doctors advised him to avoid travel outside the national capital.
After this, he fainted on stage during a program of Kumaon University in Nainital, Uttarakhand in June. Officials had said that there was a lot of heat that day and the venue was extremely suffocated. Earlier this month, his health was disturbed during his visit to Kerala and he was supported by his wife Sudesh and a colleague.
At the same time, on July 17, during the visit of Vatika developed by LG VK Saxena of Delhi, Dhankar started feeling unwell and had to rest for some time. His wife gave him water. After which his situation improved.
