New rule: Now fee will have to be paid for every OTP, common man’s pocket will be thinner

New Delhi
With a view to rein in online fraud and increase digital transparency, the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has prepared a new draft rule related to the mobile number validation (MNV). According to the proposed rules, now for mobile number verification, all institutions will have to use the dot platform and also pay a fee on every verification.
This proposal of Department of Telecommunication states that banks, fintech and other digital services will now use DOT platform to verify the user’s mobile number. Banks will have to spend ₹ 1.50 per verification and other institutions will have to spend ₹ 3. Fake or suspected number can also be closed for 90 days.
According to experts, millions of families of the country have only one mobile, which the whole family uses – from pension to digital education and banking. In such a situation, if a separate mobile number is mandatory for each account, then rural and lower classes will be cut off from digital services.
