Trump has imposed 50% tariff on India
US President Donald Trump first imposed 25% tariff on India. A few days later, he announced that American tariffs on India will be increased in relation to the purchase of Russian oil.
He had said, ‘India is not only purchasing large amounts of oil from Russia but is also earning huge profits by selling a large part of the purchased oil in the open market. India does not care about how many people are killing Russia’s war machine in Ukraine. In view of this, I am going to increase the tariff on India.
Trump announced the imposition of 25% of additional tariffs on India, which has increased the total tariff to 50%. This 50% tariff Trump’s executive order on India will be applicable from 21 days after the issuance.
What did India say on Trump’s 50% tariff?
In addition to Trump, Tariff has been described as irrational by the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The ministry said, “This action is unfair, unnecessary and irrational.”
In a statement issued by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on the social media platform X, it said, “In recent times the US has targeted India’s oil imports from Russia. We have already made our stand on these issues, including the fact that our import is based on market conditions. And its aim is to ensure India’s energy security of 140 million population of India.
