In view of the continuous torrential rains in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood warning in many areas. This warning has been released at a time when there is a possibility of impact of acute monsoon in the upper and central parts of Pakistan from 5 to 8 August. Apart from this, heavy rains are expected due to monsoon streams and western Dronika’s influence on northern Pakistan.
Flood alert in Pakistan due to heavy rains
Due to heavy rains, the water level in all major rivers of Pakistan, including Indus, Chenab and Ravi, is expected to rise, while Ravi and Chenab’s tributaries are expected to flood. On the other hand, floods in Turbella, Guddu and Sukkur barrage are currently at low levels, but continuous rain can also push glasses and tauca towards low flood levels. In addition, the water level can be seen in Nowshera due to the Kabul River, the Swat River and Panjkora and the streams associated with them and the continuous rains in the water level.
Rain can increase the water level of obstacles
According to media reports, water flows in a network of water streams in Hunja, Shigra and Ghincha districts in Pakistan can cause potential floods with tributaries in Hunja, Shigra and Ghincha districts. Also, existing storage in dams indicates that the Tarbella reservoir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is at 94% and its water level is likely to rise due to heavy rains.
NDMA warned people to be vigilant
The NDMA has asked people living near rivers and drains to be vigilant, as heavy rains at night may suddenly increase the water level.
How much loss so far due to rain?
According to data released by NDMA, at least 299 people, including 140 children, died and 715 others were injured due to torrential monsoon rains since 26 June. According to the report, 715 people have been injured in the incidents due to rain, including 239 children, 204 women and 272 men.
So far, a total of 1,676 houses were damaged and 428 animals were killed due to sudden floods and heavy rains. This flood has caused widespread destruction in many areas and has caused heavy damage to local communities.
