According to a study by industry organization PHDCCI, 25 percent of tariffs declared by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods will be negligible on the country’s GDP (GDP). The research paper released by the PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) also recommends several measures to reduce the impact of American tariffs. Hemant Jain, President of PHDCCI, said, “Our analysis shows that the 25 percent tariff declared by the US on India resulted in India’s total global trade exports only 1.87 percent and a very minor 0.19 percent on India’s GDP.”
The study said that in 2024-25 India exported $ 86.5 billion (1.87 percent of India’s total global exports) and the type of tariffs that have been announced will affect $ 8.1 billion exports. In the sector export of the tariff, the impact of the sector will have an impact of $ 1.8 billion on engineering goods, $ 93.2 million on gems and jewelery and $ 500 million on stitched clothes.
