The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Election Commission to submit the details of about 65 lakh voters excluding the voter list in Bihar by August 9, ie Saturday. Justice Suryakant, Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan and Justice N. A bench of Kotishwar Singh asked the Election Commission counsel to submit details of 65 lakh voters removed and also give a copy of it to the NGO ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’ (ADR). This details have already been shared with political parties.
The NGO, who challenged the June 24 order of the Election Commission, who directed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, had filed a new application requesting the Election Commission to direct the names of about 65 lakh removed voters. In the petition, the ADR had said that the details of those whose names have been removed from the voter list, also mention that they (voters) are dead, migrated permanently or their names have not been considered for any other reason.
What did the court say to Prashant Bhushan?
However, the bench told Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the ADR, that the reason for the removal of the name would be mentioned later as it is just a draft list. On this, Bhushan argued that some political parties have been given a list of voters removed, but they have not clarified that the said voter is dead or migrated.
Will contact every voter affected: SC
The bench told the Election Commission counsel, “We will contact every voter affected and get the necessary information.” You (Election Commission) file a reply by Saturday and let Mr. Bhushan see it, then we will see what is revealed and what not. ”
Bhushan alleged that 75 percent of the voters filing the calculation form have not submitted any assistant documents mentioned in the list of 11 documents and their names were included on the recommendation of the Election Commission booth level officer (BLO). The bench said that it is starting hearing on the petitions challenging the Election Commission’s order of June 24 on August 12 and the NGO may make claims that day.
Describing the Election Commission as a constitutional authority working according to the law, the apex court said on 29 July that if the SIR of the voter list in Bihar is “large -scale names removed”, it will intervene immediately. The bench had set a deadline to consider the petitions challenging the SIR process of the Election Commission in Bihar and said that the hearing on the issue would be held on August 12 and 13.
