If you too book train tickets through IRCTC, this news is for you, because IRCTC has deacted more than 2.5 crore user IDs. Railways suspected booking patterns of some users in the analysis of data. On the basis of this doubt, the ID of these users has been closed. The government gave this information in response to a question in Parliament.
Rajya Sabha MP Eddie Singh asked a question about this in Parliament. Singh had asked the Railway Ministry question as to why the ID of crores of users of IRCTC was closed, how do the tickets disappear as soon as ticket booking opens and what steps are the railway taking to stop it? In response, the government gave information. The ministry has written in its reply that, IRCTC has discontinued more than 2.5 crore user IDs to prevent the disturbances in ticket booking. Investigation revealed that there is something wrong in booking from these user IDs.
In a response to the Rajya Sabha on 25 July, the Railway Ministry said that the IRCTC has taken this step to prevent disturbances and misuse in the ticket booking system. During data analysis, it was found that crores of user IDs were made up of fake or suspicious information. After which they were deactivated so that transparency could be brought in Tatkal ticket booking and honest passengers are not harmed.
The ministry also said that, the demand for tickets in trains is not the same throughout the year. There is some time when the demand for tickets is very high and some time is when it is low. Tickets are sold quickly in trains which are more popular and those who take less time to travel. But tickets are easily available in other trains. Passengers get confirmed tickets easily, there should be transparency in ticket booking and people should book more and more online tickets, for this the Railways have taken several steps.
Apart from this, regular monitoring of waiting list is being done. If demand increases, special trains are operated or additional coaches are added to existing trains. Also, schemes such as options and upgradation schemes are run so that passengers with waiting can also get confirmed seats.
The ministry informed that passengers can book tickets online or by visiting the railway counter. Nowadays about 89 percent of tickets are booked online. You can also pay in a digital way on railway counter. Some changes have been made in the rules of Tatkal ticket booking since 1 July 2025. Passengers will now have to verify the Aadhaar card on IRCTC website or app. Agents will not be able to book tickets for 30 minutes before opening Tatkal ticket booking.
