Himachal Pradesh is struggling with the horrific outbreak of weather these days. On the one hand, snowfall on the mountains has knocked the cold winds, on the other hand rain and landslides have disturbed life. Especially in Lahaul-Spiti district, snow has been seen for the third time in the month of July itself. On Friday, fresh snowfall at Shinkula, Baralacha and Tangalangla Pass covered the mountains with white sheets.
Conditions worsen due to continuous rains
Due to continuous rains in many districts of the state – Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu and Solan – roads, bridges and drinking water schemes have suffered heavy damage. About 250 roads are closed, out of which 182 roads are disrupted in Mandi district alone. Apart from this, 26 roads have been closed in Sirmaur, 23 in Kullu, 10 in Kangra, 6 in Solan, 3 in Una and 2 in Chamba.
Water life mission is also affected
137 drinking water schemes have come to a standstill due to heavy rainfall and landslide. 113 schemes are affected in Mandi district and 18 in Kangra, due to which the common life is being affected.
Meteorological Alert: Warning of heavy to very heavy rain
The Meteorological Department has issued a special warning for the next 21, 22 and 23 July. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Sirmaur districts. During this time, a sudden flood -like situation can also arise. Although the weather is likely to be slightly clean in most parts of the state on 19 and 20 July, some areas may receive light rain.
So far 112 people have lost their lives
From June 20 till now, i.e. from the beginning of the monsoon to July 17, 112 people have died in the state. Out of these, 67 people have died in natural disasters like rain and landslides, while 45 people have lost their lives in road accidents.
Loss of more than 1200 crores so far
According to the preliminary assessment made by the State Disaster Management Department, till now the rains and related accidents have lost more than Rs 1221 crore. In this:
546 crores to Public Works Department
434 crores to Water Power Department
Agriculture and horticulture have lost about 40 crores.
Administration appeal
The administration has appealed to the citizens not to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, do not go to the hilly areas and follow the guidelines issued by the local administration.
