Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the national workshop on the subject of “Astronomy and Indian Knowledge Tradition” on Saturday 21 June in Varahamihira Aptial Observatory, Dongla, Ujjain. The workshop will include the country’s prestigious scientists and academics. Many educational and scientific activities will be organized during this period. Among them are yoga camps, zero shadow observation, science shows, stem workshops, lectures and discussion.

The workshop will focus on the tradition of Indian astronomy and its scientific relevance. Expert Indian knowledge system and coordination of modern science will be detailed. Efforts will be made to connect the ancient knowledge traditions of India with modern science along with astronomy in the workshop. Workshop was organized by M.P. Science and Technology Council, Bhopal, Vigyan Bharati, Acharya Varahamihira Trust Ujjain, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, Vikram University Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh Hindi Granth Academy Academy and Veer Bharat Nyas are being done under the aegis

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav Padmashree Dr. Vishnu Sridhar Wakankar will observe zero shadow through cone device at the observatory. Along with this, Acharya will also inaugurate the state -of -the -art planetary built by Varahamihira Trust and Avada Foundation. During this period, the constellation-show will also be demonstrated. The Chief Minister will address the inauguration-satisfaction of the national workshop at the auditorium at Dr. Yadav Observatory. Astronomy and Indian knowledge tradition will be discussed in the discussion session.

It is noteworthy that Acharya Varahamihira Trust has established the state -of -the -art Digital Planetary in village Dongla by Acharya Varahamihira Trust with the Avada Foundation’s economic cooperation and technical cooperation of Deep Sky Planetarium, Kolkata. The objective of establishing a planetary is to calm the information related to astronomy and natural phenomena among the common people and school children of rural areas. FRP of 8 meters diameter in this planetary. Dome has been installed in the Domegen 4 digital projector and digital sound system. In this air -conditioned spherical planetary, 55 people will sit together and be able to get exciting experience and joy of the events in the surprising and curious universe of the celestial theater. The cost of this planetary is around 1.6 crore rupees.

Varahamihira Astronomical Observatory, Dongla: Leading Center of Astronomy Research in Central India
The Tropic of Cancer passes through the historic village Dongla in Mahidpur tehsil of Ujjain district. Since ancient times, astronomy and astrology have special significance. In the year 2013, the Varahamihira astronomical observatory was established by the Science and Technology Council of Madhya Pradesh Government, to carry forward the glorious knowledge tradition of India. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has made a special contribution in the process ranging from the concept of this ambitious project, land selection to construction. The installation of this observatory has received technical support from Indian Institute of Astro Physics (IIA), Bangalore and Aryabhata Training Science Research (Aries), Nainital.

The 20 -inch modern telescope installed in the 5 meter dome at the observatory is promoting research and astronomy activities. This facility is providing a platform of study and research in the field of astronomy to students, researchers and academics of the state and country. Astronomy -based Winter School is organized here and students from other states are also visiting this observatory under the “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” scheme. Recently, this telescope has been provided automation facility in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Indore. This is a historical initiative to suit the new education policy and the national space policy. With this, students of remote areas will also be able to connect through the observatory through online.

Padma Shri Dr. Vishnu Sridhar Wakankar Vedhala, established in Dongla itself, is focused on ancient astronomical instruments, keeping the cultural and scientific heritage of the region alive. This effort is a historical initiative to develop Dongla as a center of the concept of “Dongla Meen Time (DMT)” as a coordination of modern technology and ancient knowledge.
