10.33 crore women life became easy, clean fuel promoted from PM Ujjwala scheme: Hardeep Puri

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s energy mix is changing rapidly and LPGs like clean fuel are being promoted rapidly, which is also improving the standard of living of women and has also helped in their empowerment.

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday that 10.33 crore women have been honored and ease through LPG connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), it is a historical initiative in India’s clean energy journey.

He further said that currently there are 1.51 crore piped natural gas (PNG) connections in the country. City Gas Distribution (CGD) network covers 96 percent of the country’s land and 99 percent of the population. This has made energy access easier in the country.

According to the Union Minister, women are receiving work and training in leadership positions in the energy industry. At the same time, biogas plants, retail fuel stores and LPG are also contributing to distribution. The government purchased 42,800 tonnes of compressed biogas (CBG) in FY 2024-2025 as part of an effort to promote green energy.

The Petroleum Minister said, “Today, Indian women are not only beneficiaries. She is leading the energy of the country to shape the future.” In addition to providing clean fuel to millions of people, the Central Government initiative to access energy has promoted social and economic empowerment, especially for women.

Earlier, the central had said that India is taking steady and confident steps towards oil self -sufficiency and under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the country is securing its energy future.

According to Puri, 99 percent of the ban has been removed from the 99 percent “no-go” areas and a 1 million square kilometer offshore area is now open for exploration. Both domestic and international energy companies have already expressed interest in oil and gas blocks available under the Open Acresy Licensing Program (OALP), and new standards are expected to be set up for investment and participation in the tenth round bid.
